Dr. David Mitchell is the Director of Education for Atlanta Institute of Music and Media. He is responsible for overseeing the Certificate and Degree programs offered at the school. He is also the academic advisor for the Music and Technology Degree programs and is responsible for program design, student advising and registration, monitoring attendance, disciplinary procedures, student retention, SAP monitoring, accreditation and compliance, hiring and evaluating faculty, maintaining personnel files and policy implementation and design. In addition, he teaches acoustic guitar, music appreciation and music history. Dr. Mitchell is a published composer who writes for large and small ensembles, interactive electronic and electroacoustic music for performance as well as original scores for films, video games, promotional ads and corporate videos. His commercial work includes music for Hilton Hotels and The Coca Cola Company. He has won numerous competitions, including the Olin Parker Composition Competition, Southeastern Composers League Phillip Slate Composition Competition and The Contemporary Chamber Ensemble Composition Competition. He also is the author of a music composition blog that was selected by Feedspot as one of the top fifteen music composition blogs online. Dr. Mitchell holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts Music Composition and Theory, Masters of Music Composition and a Bachelor’s Degree in Guitar Performance. In addition to his professional interests, Dr. Mitchell collects vinyl records and learning about astronomy and astrophysics.
