“AIM is just the place to be. You can gain a lot of information—it really helps you with touring, studio work, and engineering. People say it’s like a mini Full Sail or a mini Berklee, but I say if you want a lot of attention from your teachers, this is the place. It’s hands-on, and it worked out for me.”
Stephen “Step” Freeman is a touring keyboardist, producer, and music director whose talent and dedication have taken him to some of the world’s biggest stages. A proud alumnus of the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media (AIMM), Step is best known for performing with Grammy-winning icon Mary J. Blige, with whom he has toured internationally across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Stephen’s musicianship and stage presence have earned him a reputation as a versatile and dynamic performer, capable of commanding a wide array of keyboards, synths, and production rigs. His breakout moment came during the iTunes Festival in London, where he played for a crowd of over 200,000—an experience he describes as life-defining.
At AIMM, Stephen honed not only his instrumental skills but also his technical understanding of production, EQ, and sound design. He credits AIMM’s hands-on training and tight-knit faculty for helping launch his professional career:
“AIMM is just the place to be… it’s hands-on, and it worked out for me.”
Today, Step continues to perform, produce, and inspire emerging musicians through both his artistry and story.
